Old Business

• A Vice President for the group is still needed, volunteers are welcome to assume the position.  The Vice President serves one year as V.P. and then takes over as President the following year.

• Fall Conferences and the Book Fair went very well.  Principal Joe Thimm reported nearly 100 percent parent attendance at conferences and very few follow-up calls of individual concerns from parents.  The special “$1 for Books” campaign raised $188 at the school, to be donated by Scholastic to schools in hurricane-ravaged areas. Mr. Moberg’s and Ms. Greene’s classes earned pizza parties for raising the most money in grades K – 2 and grades 3 - 5.

Treasurer’s report

Karla Stoeckman reported a checking account balance of $38,354.45.  It will not be known how much of that is fundraiser profit until we receive a bill from Geckler Co. for the fall fundraiser.  She has spoken with a local tax person about having the group’s taxes professionally filed this year, but it could cost around $1,000. Joe said he would speak with someone he knows who could possibly charge a lower rate.

Principal’s Corner

• The school raised over $1,230 for Hurricane Katrina and Rita victims. Ms. Klinke’s and Ms. Stephansen’s classes were pictured in the newspaper and earned ice cream parties for raising the most money.
• On behalf of Mary Berning, Joe shared books illustrated by Warren Hanson, who is scheduled to visit the school and talk with students Nov. 18.
• Joe requested $1,200 to purchase a new piece of playground equipment through an Osceola manufacturer.  The piece retails for $3,500. Motion by Polly, second by Amy to approve the purchase.  It will be scheduled for installation by the end of the fall.
• A Reading First volunteer will be going through training soon with Ruth Thorstad at the school.  The volunteer will be available to provide extra reading help to students.
• Plastech has again donated money to be used for the Kindergarten Plus program, which currently helps five students with extra classtime following the morning kindergarten session.

Teacher Time:

Deb Casterton, Neva Noyd and Sheila Sandell discussed a die cut wish list of new items the teachers might want to purchase. Deb shared price lists of the items.  The group discussed spending some money now and some money later in the year on new cuts for the Accu Cut machine. Motion by Amy, second by Trish to approve $600 for the teachers to decide which die cuts to purchase.

Fundraiser News

•  The fundraiser went well, with almost $32,000 in gross sales.  Delivery is set for Nov. 2; volunteers signed up to help unload, sort and distribute the boxes.
• Four classes earned ice cream parties by selling a total of 250 items, but another two classes are close so they may also receive a party.  Fourth grader Philip Bartholomew was the top seller, with 56 items.  The top sellers from each class will have their photo in the Chisago County Press.
• Since the start of the school year, the school has received $352 in General Mills boxtops, $100 from Kemps milk caps and $100 from Land O’ Lakes milk caps.

Board Bulletin:

CLHS Principal Dave Ertl and Assistant Principal Sara Johnson gave a presentation to the board about what’s new at the high school, including this year’s goals and last year’s test scores.
• The board will host its retreat Nov. 17.
• Food Services Director Judy Caroon is putting together a committee to work on a district wellness policy, which must be in place by next summer.

New Business

Mary Konobeck will take over as Volunteer Coordinator for the group.
• With the holidays approaching, Penny requested wish lists from the teachers for things they might want for their classrooms.  The lists could be combined on a single page to be sent home with all students in their communication folders, giving students and parents ideas of what to buy their teacher this year.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:35 p.m.  The next Taylors Falls Parents for Education meeting willbe Monday, Nov. 14, 2005 at 7 p.m.
