A volunteer is many things: an extra pair of hands, an extra measure of personal warmth, a valuable special resource for classroom enrichment, a bridge between the instructional program and the community. We cannot buy what volunteers give our schools!

Guidelines for Volunteers:

  • Confidentiality- Discussing school events, lessons and issues in general is fine, but nothing about individual children. It is vital that each child's privacy is protected.

  • Volunteers should be prompt and consistent on being in school when scheduled to help.
  • All suggestions and opinions will always be welcome, but volunteers will work under the supervision of a teacher.
  • Volunteers must refer ALL discipline problems to the teacher, principal or staff member in charge.
  • Volunteers must not contact students after the school day is out and they are not on school grounds.

Beginning with the 2009-2010 school year, all volunteers will be required to have a background check, or provide one from an employer or other agency that has been completed within the last year.  The charge for the background check will be $10.00.  Please fill out the form at the end of this paragraph and send it to the District Office (or drop off at any school building).  Be sure to include a check for $10 payable to Chisago Lakes ISD #2144.  If you have any questions about criminal background checks, please contact Rebecca at the District Office at 651-213-2003 or email rmarshall@chisagolakes.k12.mn.us.  The criminal background check will only be done once unless you have a break in your volunteer services of more than one year.   VOLUNTEER CBC FORM (pdf)   Fair Credit Reporting Act (pdf) CBC sample result (pdf)   School Board Policy #404 Background Checks
